About Gregory and Angie Schaaf

OUR PURPOSE is to provide a Standard Biographical Reference Series for Native American Artists, collectors, curators and educators. 17,000 Native Artists — past and present are profiled in nine volumes. Artist Profiles are illustrated with portrait photographs of the artists and examples of their artwork. Artist Biographies feature their family history, cultural background, teachers and students, types of art, techniques, materials, exhibits, awards and publications. Artists were invited to offer their own personal statements.

OUR CONTRIBUTIONS: We worked as a team in creating these books. Gregory Schaaf, Ph.D., composed each Artist Biography, while Angie Schaaf designed each book. She personally photographed many of the artists and their artworks. Other photos were contributed by the artists, family members, dealers and collectors. Gregory Schaaf is a retired Professor of Native American Studies and Angie is a professional designer, living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Together, they co-founded Santa Fe’s “Free Indian Market,” under their guidance of 68 Traditional Elders.
