American Indian Textiles features biographies of 2,000 American Indian textile artists, complete with family tree charts.

 

The information is organized into three categories: 1. Navajo Weavers 2. Pueblo Textile Artists 3. Other Native American Textile Artists.

 

The aim of series is to introduce audiences to the fine arts of American Indian artists. This volume showcases over 2,000 artists from the last two centuries, including more than 600 artist portraits and over 1,000 textiles. Created with the collaboration of American Indian artists and their supporters, the book compiles data from artist surveys, archival research, and personal interviews across 25 categories, covering aspects such as the artist's pueblo, social group, clan, active years, lifespan, family ties, education, awards, exhibitions, and more. Many artists included personal statements expressing their for creating art, while others shared autobiographical narratives.

 

Family tree charts at the end illustrate the transmission of artistic traditions through generations.
